Iqbal IX Cricket and Grandfather’s Guidance by MF Husain

1214a, Iqbal IX, 20 x 25.5 in, Serigraph on Paper, Limited Edition of 250, 2005, LR in English (Pencil Signed)
In this artwork, Husain shows a boy in the act of bowling, his body stretched in energy and intent. Beside him stands his dada, the guiding figure, holding a wooden stick in one hand and his bicycle by his side. On his way to work, he pauses to mentor and encourage, offering the kind of everyday coaching that nurtures resilience.
The scene is lifted by the bold fields of red, yellow, and green. Red marks the labour and effort of the elder, yellow glows around the boy’s action like the promise of success, and green breathes hope into the setting. These colours together highlight the bond of generations, the wisdom of experience, and the spark of youthful ambition.
Husain brings out the spirit of learning and guidance, showing how dreams are shaped not in isolation but through love, discipline, and the constant presence of family support.
