Dual Ganeshas by M F Husain

1210, Asthavinayak, 14 x 20 in, Reproduction on Paper, Limited Edition of 500, 1998, LR in English (Pencil Signed)

The picture begins with a step. One Ganesha walks forward, and another, smaller, follows like an afterimage. The composition is spare, but the rhythm of presence multiplies across time and space.

Husain draws with quick, assured strokes, almost calligraphic, leaving space for silence to complete the form. Grey washes spread like diluted ink, soft and reflective, holding pause as much as motion. The lotus appears nearby, a lamp of intention in the journey.

The blessing hand is a sign of companionship, as if the god says, “I walk beside you.” The essence of the work is continuity, the step goes on even when the frame ends. What stays is the feeling of a divine companion who arrives again and again, both memory and presence.
