Finishing Point by MF Husain

Finishing Point, 17.5 x 22 in, Serigraph on Paper, Limited Edition of 1200, 2004, LR in English (Pencil Signed)
Few serigraphs feel as personal as this. Husain steps into the picture as artist and subject, painting the horses that defined his life. The title Finishing Point hints at focus and control. He holds the long iconic brush with a sure hand, body turned in a forward rhythm that mirrors the gallop he creates.
Colour carries the story. The primary colours sing beside golden, brown, green, and yellow ochre grounds. The leading white horse glows with clarity, a second horse carries blue like a shadow of speed, and the forward orange face sparks attention. Bold black lines shape muscle and motion, while open areas of colour keep the composition airy and direct.
The pots of paint near his feet remind us that the magic is made on paper, with colour, line, and will. The gesture of his hand reads like a command and a blessing. He is not just painting horses. He is naming his muse, celebrating the image that became his signature.
This is iconic Husain. A self-portrait of practice, love, and mastery, where the painter and the horse move together toward a clear and joyful finish.
