Horse I by MF Husain

5020, Dada Horse, 40 x 30 in, Serigraph on Paper, Limited Edition of 125, 2004, LR in English (Pencil Signed)

The figure of Dada with Horse is deeply personal for Husain, a memory transformed into an icon. Both Dada and the horse were his constants, his most loved subjects, now joined as if they belonged to the same legend. The work is built in shades of blue, a near monochromatic palette that Husain used with rare sensitivity. Each tone of blue carries a different feeling, from calmness to devotion, silence to depth. In his hands, colour becomes emotion, and here blue becomes the language of memory and attachment.

The brown accents offer grounding, connecting the figures back to soil and reality. They remind us that even icons grow out of earth and tradition. The horse stands close to Dada, almost like a companion spirit, its presence as important as the man himself. And then there is the gesture of the hand, raised upward, a motion that calls, guides, and blesses at once. It gives the scene both human intimacy and mythic power.

This work is not just about a man and an animal. It is about bond, memory, and reverence, where Husain turns personal history into timeless image.
